What is a "Boudoir Session"?

I am getting lots of questions about the "Little Black Book" Sessions.  I am posting some questions I have received along with some answers.  Feel free to drop me a line if you have any that aren't listed.  Also, see below for some suggestions for your boudoir session.

Q. What does "boudoir" mean anyway?

A. The term boudoir is french for a woman's dressing room.

Q: What if I'm not a size 2 with a perfect body?
A: No problem! My job is to emphasize the good and minimize the less than perfect.  There are lots of little problem areas that we can airbrush out.  *See Before & After photos.   Besides, your man doesn't expect you to look like a different person, and he thinks you are sexy the way you are!

Q: Where will we shoot and how long will it take?
A: We will be shooting in a private room of a local clothing boutique here in Murphy.  The shoots are booked after hours (for your privacy) and are 45 minute time slots.  The sessions fees are due at the time of booking.  We are only booking a total of 12 sessions for this Valentine's Day season.

Q: What should I wear?
A: I leave this completely up to you.  If your guy is a sports fan, you may choose to wear one of his favorite jerseys.  Or he may like to see you in one of his white button-down shirts.  You have many options.  Sexy lingerie is always a favorite.  Or maybe some hip huggers and a lacy bra?  Be adventurous ladies!

Q: Do I have to shoot nude?
A: No, of course not! I will shoot only "implied nude", where you may be wearing lingerie but you can't see anything showing that you might not want shown. You don't even have to do this if you don't want to--whatever you want to wear is just fine. You can also decide at the shoot what you are comfortable/not comfortable showing.

Q: But....are you going to post photos of me on your website? I really don't want anyone to see them!
A: No, all of our sessions are completely confidential!  The shoot itself will be attended by a female assistant and myself.  I never release or show any photos without a signed release by the photographed party.   If you don't mind having your photos posted, just give me the go-ahead and I can do that also.

~ Tips for your shoot ~

~Wardrobe ~
Try to wear something loose and unrestrictive.  It's hard to airbrush out "zipper marks".  Sometimes, a nice dress shirt belonging to your fiancé/husband/boyfriend is nice and makes the photos very personal. Also, jerseys from a favorite team either he himself, or both of you share. If he is into any certain sports like hunting, golf, snowboarding, etc. possibly bringing some sort of prop to identify this sport will be good. Additionally, fun little outfits such as corsets, heels, lacy lingerie are always a favorite wardrobe choice when doing boudoir photographs.

~Hair~
Wearing hair down is always best for this type of shoot. Because you will be moving around so much and laying on your back or holding your head up by your hand (which puts your hand in your hair),  it's always best to wear it down so you are not constantly fixing it during the shoot.

~Makeup~
I encourage you to go heavy on your foundation, powder, bronzer, and blush. You'll also need powder to reduce the shine from any oils in your makeup. Additionally, I suggest that you go very heavy and dark on the lids of your eyes and either do light liner or no liner at all on the lower lid. Heavier than usual on the mascara is always good too. Lastly, don't forget your mouth!  Glosses with just a hint of color are best unless your going for "Hollywood Glam" and then you will want a deep matte red.

Most importantly, when doing boudoir photography, you want to have fun and feel relaxed. The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will turn out!
